We, the undersigned Engineers and Executive Engineers
of the Public Works Department beg to thank you for conveying
to us the contents of a recent circular from Government to
Heads of Departments concerning proposals which if carried out
would affect our future, particularly with respect to remuneration
and pensions.
2. Interpretation.
These proposals, taken in conjunction with the recent
amendment to G. U. 90, viz. the addition thereto of paragraph 5(d) are interpreted to mean that the scales given in General
Orders in Appendix VI and which are commonly known as the West
african Scales, would be applied to officers of this Department
at present on the existing scales, both on promotion and when
acting in a senior post.
3. Comparison of Scales.
We have examined the new scales and have prepared the
graphs and tables given in the appendices attached to show the
divergencies between the proposed and existing scales.
Appendix I is a graph showing the nett salaries
receivable by Engineers, Executive Engineers and assistant
Directors of Public Works, buth in the Colony and on leave,
under the existing and proposed scales.
appendix II is a graph showing the pensionable
emoluments of the same officers under the existing and proposed
scales.
appendix III gives full details of the foregoing
salaries and pensionable emoluments from which appendices I and
